Credit Unions Help St. Jude Patients

Credit unions in Quincy and the surrounding area are coming together in July to support the third

annual St. Jude Quincy to Peoria Run, a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Participating credit unions will compete against each other by seeing which one can sell the most

paper feet pin-ups to their members during the month of July. Each pin-up will cost $1 and will

be displayed with the purchaser’s name throughout the month.

Each credit union that sells pin-ups will have the opportunity to draw a member’s name from their

collection of pin-ups, and that member will receive a prize.

All proceeds will go to the Quincy to Peoria Run, which will take place Aug. 3-4. Fifty area

runners will cover 130 miles in 21 hours during a relay-style run, ending at the Peoria Convention

Center during St. Jude’s regional telethon. Other running groups from around the state also will

 meet in Peoria.

The proceeds from the run benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a world-renowned

center for the treatment and research of life-threatening childhood diseases, such as cancer,

sickle cell anemia and pediatric AIDS.

Since the hospital’s founding in 1962 by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, it has treated more

than 17,000 children from around the world, including children from Quincy and the surrounding

area. All children are treated regardless of race, religion or ability to pay.
